One of the organizations many long-standing activities is its annual Royal Rosarian Rose Garden Contest, now in its 82nd year.

The contest is open to every rose grower within 20 miles of Pioneer Courthouse Square in Portland. The competition was established in 1938 as a citywide event for the “queen of flowers,” the rose.
The event showcases top amateur rose gardens as well as commercial plantings in Portland. The contest also promotes an enhanced appreciation for rose growing and honors citizens who help beautify the city.
In 2020, onsite judging will be held on May 31, and the awards will be presented on June 16.
